You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Roman Gladiator! written by John Malam and illustrated by David Antram is a Franklin Watts book and was published when this year’s college freshmen were born (2000).

I like history, so I chose this even though it was older than my original intention to purchase at the library book sale.

It resonated with the information I already knew. None of it seemed off. I learned some things I didn’t know, particularly about Roman slaves.

The author did an excellent job of putting together the story. When you as the gladiator die in battle, you don’t feel bad. I am not quite sure how he managed that, but it was certainly a unique choice.
